ENCOURAGING OVERVIEW
This information is about what happens in the body when someone has
abuse, and it puts psychological understanding and personal experience
into a concrete, physical context, which is what it really is. Then
I explain how the methods I use remove those conditions. They are
distortions in what a healthy physical condition is, and healthy
conditions can be restored.
Combined with the How-To
appendices, this information will indeed help people who have been abused
understand what is still going on and, very importantly, know what they
can do to totally,
or very significantly,
get rid of it, and fairly quickly, even without a lot of trauma.
Other Body-Oriented
therapists & Structural Integrators do help. What’s written in this
book, however is not usually explained anywhere else, especially not in a body-oriented way,
and with the combinational approach I use. It is an explanation of what I
have learned in two decades of work.
Abused people who have read this say it’s
very accurate about their own lives, and people who have relationships
with formerly abused people say this describes just what they run up
against in trying to build the relationship with them.
It CAN get a lot better.

INTRODUCTION
from the book
The purpose of this book is very
specific. It's to introduce a way of working on what we usually call
a psychological problem in a more wholistic way. And with this way,
I and others have found that we can achieve significant and more effective
results than verbal therapy alone, and in a much faster time. It is
Abuse & Trauma Clearing.
My targeted audience
is also very specific. It’s for already interested laypeople who want to
understand their issues and those of loved one's in a clearer way than is
usually presented, and it is for professional therapists who are interested in
learning new and better additions to their own already developed
capabilities. It is also for other Body therapists, to help them add
to their skills.
I have been formally
and informally schooled in various body psychology methods, in energy
application methods, in hands on bodywork, in special nutritional
approaches and in meditation. I have
22 years and 22,000 hours professional experience. And the
descriptions in this book explain how I use a combination of body-oriented
and awareness methods in a systematic, integrated way.
I have also been
trained as an electronic engineer. I used to design, develop and
debug electronic computer equipment. Now I am a "people" engineer.
I use an “engineering” explanation to analyze the problems that
stay with people after they’ve been repeatedly abused, or even abused just
once. And these are presented in non-technical jargon.
Most everyone can understand them and even get "mental pictures" about
what I describing. Then I use well proven, effective solutions to these problems.
And I explain in this book how they work.
I’m defining a problem in an objective sense, and then using
well worked out methods to solve it. And this approach works well,
because I am describing, and addressing, what is "actually" going on, in
the whole body as well as the mind.
I often point out in the text that
psychotherapists know what's going on, too. And a lot of what they
do has helped people. But many of them look at it as something going
on in people's "minds." There's actually a bigger view.
While we experience what is going on mentally, and maybe physically as far
as tension or pain, the cause of that problem eludes many people, simply
because it hasn't been explained to them in this Body-oriented way.
I think you have to be a bodyworker who's also trained in body-oriented
psychology, to look at things in this way.
Even therapists who
work to release bodily stored emotions could benefit from this
information. They'll see a bigger picture about the bodymind
condition, and a much bigger picture of very effective treatment methods.
I'm an ordained
clergyman and psychologically adept counselor, so I care greatly about the
people who “have” these problems. And this approach works. I do not
consider the person at fault. Immature in spiritual development, yes, and
needing improvement, as we all do. So "bad karma" has created a
spiritual problem. And now that the person has done enough spiritual
practice and helped enough other people, he or she is ready to remove the
negative residues in his or her bodymind. That's actually when
people "find" me.
My experience has taught me that what
happened to them was not all bad. Besides, perhaps, giving them
compassion and atoning for 'bad deeds," what has "really" happened is that
parts of the person were shut down so other parts could develop. Now
that they're all developed, the person's life leads them to someone who
can help them get the restrictive "side effects" out. Then, much
more of the person is "on line" in a positive way.
The client and I work as a team, and
we treat the problems as “things” within them, that have been controlling
and limiting them. We can actually remove these “things.” And when the person is
freed enough from a particular issue, he or she can then make efforts to
consciously behave differently. In fact, people
usually start thinking and behaving better automatically. Our beings
are actually designed that way.
This release approach also helps
personal and professional development. Most development methods
are designed to teach better skills and imbed a new belief system and
understanding of how the mind works. Removing old restrictions,
blockages and negative attitudes, physically solidified in people's
bodies, can obviously help what I call the "behavior modification"
developmental approaches to work faster and do even more. Getting
rid of the "bad" is just what happens with an approach that makes the
whole person bigger and better.
Please see the appendix article on
Performance Enhancement for a detailed analysis and explanation of
this kind of approach.
This book has been written and
edited with the help of my friends and clients who were abused
themselves, and know others who were abused. So we've made the language
and explanations easily understandable even if some of the terms are
unfamiliar when you first start reading.
By the end of the text, I believe most people will understand my
explanations.
I have had a few friends, victims of heavy childhood abuse, say that
these explanations of the problem clearly describe the story of their
lives. And using the healing methods, they have gotten much better
and even turned their lives around. In the testimonials section
of my website, one woman said I totally changed her life. And I did.
To in lesser, but still very significant way, these methods have given
other people more satisfying, more effective lives as well.
Some people swear by their church's
spiritual approach. I can see that they could get even better
results, and be more effective people for others, if they'd also do this
method as well.
This book is not "the whole story."
But it is a very effective introduction that clearly states what the basic
problem is, how to really fix it, and what other problems will show
themselves along the way as we proceed with the fix. I then offer
solutions for those issues, too.
Now I will describe what each chapter
explains, so you can get a clearer idea of what this book is about.
In general, to make a bridge between
the body approach and standard psychological understanding, I have
regularly connected simple presentations of psychological behavior we all
can recognize with how it manifests as a body-energy condition.
Chapter 1 is a broad introduction to
what a body-mind, or bodymind is. It describes to you right from the
beginning the "vehicle" we'll be talking about and working with. It
explains how the bodymind in not just mental and psychological, and it
goes on to explain how our psychological problems manifest in this
bodymind. Then it describes methods that work with the bodymind and how
they specifically help remove the problems.
In Chapter 1 I've been purposely brief
about discussing the psychological aspects of abuse so you don't get lost
in details and lose sight of the flow of working with the body-mind, using
the specific methods I'm describing in this book. This chapter also
outlines a set of major principles I use to guide the overall process, and
in this description, you'll see why I don't consider myself a
psychological therapist but rather a human growth facilitator or human
potential specialist.
Chapter 2 explains specifics of the
condition, in the bodymind, of what happens from being abused. And
Chapter 3 relates how these conditions make people act in the
dysfunctional ways many of us are familiar with.
(Even with ourselves and with people we know who didn't suffer long
periods of abuse.)
Chapters 4, 5 and 6 then describe some
of the layers in that bodymind condition that start to show themselves as
the person gets better with this kind of treatment. In fact, the same
conditions happen with standard psychotherapy,
so this explanation is also meant to serve as an aid for therapists, to
help them better understand just what is going on with what could be
called transference and body armor. The chapters also offer specific
solutions that have worked for clients in the past who were undergoing
psychotherapy and/or my body-mind treatments.
The appendix
describing the Psychological, Personal Growth and Stress Removal benefits
of the Bodywork itself explains more of this.
Chapter 7 then introduces and explains
how we humans operate, but from an energy system point of view, part of it.
This energy system, called the set of chakra (sha-kra) energy centers
is real, and has been measured and analyzed for both physical and
psychological treatment in both the U.S. and former Eastern Block
countries. Not only are these detectable by so called aura readers,
professionally trained energy healers and spiritual practitioners, but
even at the Movement Behavior Laboratory at the University of California
at Los Angeles, they've been measured with electronic instruments.
There are even simple ways anyone can see the effects of their energies on
a small weight hanging by a light string. And there are breathing
methods, combined with specific visualizations that actually cleanse and
strengthen these energy centers. They're just a part of us we
usually don't see or notice, like what the parathyroid and anterior
pituitary glands look like and what vital functions they are playing in
our bodies.
An analysis of these energy centers is
most commonly used by medical professionals (who use it) as a diagnostic
tool for healing specific organs and as a measurement of psychosocial
distress.
In Chapter 7, I present a different
use of these centers, not totally my own invention, but a summary of how to understand our
everyday psychological behavior, as well as a dysfunctional, constantly
stuck behavior, in terms of an objective physical condition. The presentation
is simpler to understand than you might think.
(I tell people in restaurants and health clubs about it all the time.)
And I use it here to improve your understanding of what
happens to us when we suffer abuse. In fact, by objectifying how we
humans are actually “put together,” it’s helped people have more hope that
they, and their marriages, can get better. Part of my own expertise is
that I can de-mystify “how we work.” Again, as an engineer, I’ve been
trained to define a problem so we can use methods to achieve a solution.
And once you understand what the
problem is and how the tools work, you’ll see why this system works so
well.
So as appendices, I’ve added a number of articles I’ve
written describing the methods . Obviously, there’s a lot of
repetition of basic concepts. But in each appendix there’s a different
slant and a lot of unique information as well.
Let me now share a table of contents,
and starting in the first chapter, I then explain a foundation.

TRAUMA
RELEASE BODYMIND PROCESSING
This article appears in the
Bodymind Section of my Website. I include it here for your
convenience, and to make it easier for you to read it in the context of
clearing the results of Abuse.
INTRODUCTION
Trauma Release Bodymind Processing is
a set of very well established, school trained methods, connected together
in a way that facilitates the removal of upsetting emotional energy that
gets stuck in our bodies during traumatic events such as childhood or
adult abuse, loss of a loved one, auto and other serious accidents,
natural disasters, financial debacles, upsetting divorces, muggings,
rapes, shootings and times of war.
WHAT ARE THE METHODS
AND WHAT DO THEY DO?
My
system of Trauma Release Bodymind Processing combines three of the most
well established and successful methods to remove material out of the
body. By combining them, I have found we get a much better resolution, in
much faster time, than by using any one or two methods alone. These
are physiologist Ida P. Rolf's Structural Integration Method of Connective
Tissue Manipulation, psychiatrist Wilhelm Reich's body oriented
psychological therapy, and psychotherapist Morris Netherton's method of
past traumatic event release and alignment therapy.
STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION
BODYWORK
Surrounding and going through all our
muscles, and underneath all our skin is a fibrous, putty-like tissue
called fascia (fah-sha). Fascia is the soft connective tissue of the body
that fills in spaces and holds things together. It has two significant
features pertinent to Trauma Release Processing. The fibers bunch-up if
they're pushed together, and then they hold the muscles in a shortened
form. And the fibers store the energies of traumatic events, even for
years and decades after the actual events themselves, just the way
magnetic tapes and CD's do.
REICHIAN BODY-ORIENTED
PSYCHOLOGICAL METHODS
Wilhelm Reich MD was an Austrian
psychiatrist who eventually came to the United States to practice and
teach. He was a student of Sigmund Freud MD, called the Father of
Psychoanalysis. And he found that the location of the subconscious mind
that Freud talked about was located in the body, as chronically tight
muscles combined with held in emotional energies.
NETHERTON'S TRAUMA RELEASE METHOD
Morris Netherton PhD developed
a system to access and release the unconscious energies in the body, very
precisely, with pictures and all, without hypnosis, and more completely
than hypnosis.
What we do is focus on the emotional
feelings, body sensations, mental thoughts and verbal words that are going
on while we're upset about a current situation. When we do this, the
content of those energies, or stored videotapes, comes to our conscious
minds. This energy can then be expressed out of our bodies by saying the
words that define the things people in those episodes were saying, feeling
and doing. We can do this when we focus on the sensations in our bodies
or pictures in our mind's eye. We express those things as if they were
the person speaking right now, and that procedure actually pulls the
energy out of the tissues.

ADDING TO
ESTABLISHED METHODS:
THE
NETHERTON METHOD ADDED TO THE BODYWORK
AND REICHIAN
THERAPY
Almost all therapies will try to teach us
how to behave differently from the way our “tapes” keep making us react.
Some meditation practices will train us to watch our tapes with awareness,
and maybe we’ll even be able to let go of our milder reactions. Yet in
both cases, many reactions we don't want remain. Some
bodywork methods release old emotions, but they don’t also change the
reasons we get stuck in self-defeating patterns. This will!

CHAPTER 1:
INTRODUCTION TO THE CONCEPT OF BODYMIND
AND THE PRACTICE OF BODYMIND THERAPIES
and some
general characteristics of the abused pattern
as understood from this point of view
THE CONCEPT OF A BODY-MIND
AND HOW PAST EXPERIENCES GET STORED IN IT
Bodymind is a term first made well known by Dr. Ken Dychtwald, in his book
of the same name published in 1970. Bodymind refers to the fact that the
body and mind, particularly as we think of them psychologically, are one
in the same thing.
A lot has been written in the last 15 years about how the mind affects the
body, how what we do with our intentions and attitudes affects our immune
system and the ability to perform well athletically. What is not so well
known is that experiences in the long forgotten past stay with us in the
body. And those experiences affect our mental and emotional attitudes.
Even less widely known is that the shape of the body and its "tissue
consistency" also determines a large part of our psychological makeup and
our ability to express emotion. This book describes some of those
effects, especially with regard to the experiences of an abused childhood.
The Bodymind is a biological unit. It is not purely mental. It consists
of physical tissue in a particular form, and that tissue is also
"impregnated" with, and surrounded by, the energies we "picked up" in our
past traumatic experiences.
This energy includes the impressions of both physical and emotional
experience.
The energy gets imbedded in little packets much like photographs are
impregnated with light and magnetic tape is imbedded with sound. Only, in
people, the sights and sounds we've absorbed also determine many of our
attitudes and behaviors, things we usually label as psychological and
emotional. That is
to say, long-term psychological patterns are actually physical
restrictions and physical energy packets in the tissue of our bodies, as
well as neurological patterns in our brains. It isn't that we just think
like this. It's that we are like this. Now, some of the energy we pick up
"along the way" is positive and healthy, just as some of our genetic make
up is. Some is problematical. Everyone absorbs both kinds. The positive
kind helps us develop our innate or "God given" talents. The negative
kind creates psychological hang-ups and phobias.
THE PHYSICAL “DISTORTIONS” PUT INTO THE BODYMIND,
CREATED DURING ABUSE
Abuse is always a persistent and repetitive put down by another person or
persons. It happens at particular times and places. These specific
experiences affect the abused person from that time onward, because they
change the person's way of "being" in the world, in a physical way.
They change how the
person looks, and how he (or she) moves, feels, thinks and emotes.
Technically speaking, they do not "replace" the person. Rather, they
distort the person's function.
This distortion changes the way the person perceives the world around him
(or her), changes the way the person acts in response to those
perceptions, and even changes the kind of people who will "magnetically"
be drawn into that person's life.
So it is not just the person's "fault" that bad things happen and they
have to struggle with them. It's really true that other abusive people
get drawn into the person's life, because the energies of the past abuse
the body has absorbed attracts the same kind of energies. This is one
part of the problem.
There is also a self-sabotaging or self-destructive aspect to people who
were abused. It
makes a good situation turn bad and a bad situation become worse. But
the self-sabotaging tendency is not a deliberate act by the person's
"better thinking" self even if it seems that way. It is actually a set of
impressed "commands" and a formation of energy patterns that were forced
into the person's sub-conscious mind and body by those other people, the
ones who did the abusing. The commands are the restrictive attitudes
spoken, felt or implied by the abusers during the actual abusive
experiences. They're the "trips" laid on the people who were abused. Yet
they have now become part of the abused person's own personality, so he
(or she) identifies with them as his own thoughts and ideas.
The energy patterns are the movements and feelings that got embedded at
the same time. And these combine with those commands to make the people
continue to often live life the way it was when they were being abused.
DEVELOPING AN ORIENTATION TOWARD
HEALING THE “BODY-MIND,”
AND UNDERSTANDING HOW THIS BODY-MIND WORKS
Before I get into a nice
description of the ways the Bodywork and release processing help us, I
first want to explain some orientations, or points of view, that will help
all of us increase the abilities of our good parts, and decrease the power
of our bad parts.
The good parts, of course, are those that do want to get
well and will put in the actual effort to do so. The Bodywork and release
processing do this to some degree, very powerfully and very quickly. It
even helps a when a person already has a meditation and yoga practice.
But I have found that just doing these Bodywork and bodymind releasing
techniques, without understanding some “foundational” concepts, will often
leave a person only in the middle levels of the clearing. And he, or she,
won’t be able to help himself because he doesn’t know how the whole body
and mind actually work as a system, and how we can make them work better
in the most effective way.
So I want to start by defining two terms that will put everything I say in
this book into perspective. One is what I call the "power of self
awareness," and the other is what I term "correct" knowledge. Developing
both of these qualities is a very big help in being able to improve
quickly with the release and transforming treatments I describe in this
book.
CHAPTER 2:
THE SPLIT LAYERS OF PERSONALITY
THAT DEVELOP PHYSICALLY, DURING ABUSE
In the last chapter I explained that we can actually improve a person's
condition as we release layers of restricted muscular movement that have
been embedded with very negative emotional energies. In this chapter I'll
begin talking about another concept of layers.
THE FOUR-LAYER SEPARATION CREATED
IN THE BODY DURING ABUSE
When a person undergoes repeated, full-fledged abusive episodes, a
four-layer personality develops. This layering is physically formed in
the body's musculature and energy fields. And because it's a physical
entity, and not an ethereal thought form, it remains with the person until
it is removed.
The
more episodes and the greater the severity of the episodes, the more
processing it takes to remove the pattern from the body and the more
resistive the person might become with their transference. But the
basic procedures to do the Bodywork and the verbal/energy processing are
still the same. There's just more volume and, in general, the negative
energies and physical restrictions are much tighter.
This physical layering
perpetuates the same kinds of experiences in the person's life, long after
the original circumstances are gone. And the personality is
"un-integrated," just like the physical structure. In psychotherapy the
term disconnected is used, and it conveys a lot of the meaning of what's
going on physically
CHAPTER 3:
PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS OF
A "BLOCKED" AND LAYERED PERSON
Versus a person who's open to the core
Now I’ll describe a number of dysfunctional characteristics and why they
occur, as defined by the physical blockages separating the bodymind into
layers, And I’ll often compare these behaviors to what an unblocked, open
bodymind does.
DESCRIBING THE BEHAVIORS OF A PHYSICALLY
LAYERED CONDITION
A person with a well-developed outer personality can seem like an open
person, because he (or she) is open, to some depth, in many kinds of
situations. These are the situations in which the person has become
safe, and in which he is capable and confident. And there is no hassle.
But underneath this niceness, or in addition to the niceness, the person
has a lot of hang-ups that display themselves on a regular basis.
One criteria that differentiates a "blocked" individual with this very
well developed outer capability, from someone who has actually
become open down to the core, is that the blocked person cannot
receive particular kinds of nourishment very well, if at all.
Some people refuse to accept actual material things or favors from
others. This is one condition. Others refuse to accept that they don't
always have to put themselves out; that they don't always have to be the
capable, or the responsible one. And a third type refuses to accept
information and suggestions, even when they’re good ones. (There are
still others.
In each case, the way
to find out whether it's a "normal" or "transient" behavior for just the
immediate situation, versus a deeply set pattern of defense, is to notice
if it's a "regular" part of the person's behavior in many
situations. And then we want to find out what the person does when the
"issue" is pressed.
With someone who is "blocked," and solidly layered, if we explore the
issue with them, many kinds of sophisticated defenses will pop up to push
the giver or nourishing situation away, or to avoid it altogether.
Some people who have done
psychological work on themselves are aware of these and other behaviors
inside them. But they're still not able to stop them from popping
up suddenly nor get out of them when they occur.
And a lot of the time they don't notice that they're doing it. That's
because their power of awareness is not strong enough to see what another
layer is doing. In fact, as I described, the layers take over the person
and an objective overall observer is not present.
CHAPTER 4:
THE PROBLEMS
OF GETTING STUCK
IN THE MIDST OF THE PROCESS,
When a significant amount of outer "doing" capability has been
improved,
But the core has not been sufficiently opened and the angry defenses are
still active
AND A LOT OF TIPS ON HOW TO RELEASE THE TRIGGERED FEELINGS
The next
three chapters are about giving agreement to what you're feeling. And
helping you become more intelligent about what to do with it.
GETTING STUCK AT THE
PLACE OF
BATTLING AND “PUSHING AWAY”
A
number of people get stuck at a level of deep anger and push away, and
stop doing the process. They are stuck at the place of “pushing away“ and
transfer this onto people in their current life. What they do not yet see
is that they are being acted out by the energies of chaotic situations
still inside them. And being blinded by these chaotic behaviors, at the
same time they are being run by them, actually keeps them from getting the
underlying satisfaction they want.
These next three chapters
discuss this situation.
With the Bodywork and psychological release therapies, the body opens from
the outside toward the inside. This is biological. The first things that
come off are the restrictions to be able to do the things you already do
without psychological blocks, and we remove the stresses and strains
you've accumulated in doing them in the recent past.
The Bodywork actually "cleans
up" the outer muscles from physical shortnesses and compressions, and from
negative emotional energies and toxins from old experiences, especially
those from adult life. With this cleansing comes a re-organizing of the
muscle and bone structure that actually makes our capabilities "do" much
better. We can do what we want to do mentally, emotionally and
physically, easier and with greater power. As well as I can remember,
everyone I’ve ever treated got these benefits.
Simply from an expressive point of view, actors and actresses say their
work is better and athletes can perform higher, stronger and faster right
away. Older people get around a lot easier. Business people find they
can do more, even in stressful circumstances, without accumulating as
much tension. And there's also more enjoyment and relaxation when at play
and rest.
When this level of
clearing occurs for many people with abused backgrounds, a certain kind
of impatience and frustration can occur. They feel more powerful in doing
what they want to do in the business and athletic world but a lot of their
close personal relationships still don't work the way they want them to,
and their big buttons still haven't been fixed.
Some often feel others are controlling or threatening them.
Because they actually do have much greater powers in the outer
parts of their Bodyminds, some people will try to use it to accomplish
what they want to do in the areas of their lives that aren't yet
"fixed." Many of them are therefore disappointed when they run into a
restricted situation.
CHAPTER 5:
MORE DELUSIONS AND RESTRICTIONS,
Why people stay stuck even after Chapter 4’s info is explained to
them.
AND HOW TO HELP IN THIS SITUATION TOO.
So that's the
encouragement to do it. What happens if you can't do it,
even after you've read what to do and at least one part of you thinks
they’re good ideas? To find that answer we should take a step back to get
a broader perspective on the issue.
TWO
SELF-SABOTAGING BEHAVIORS,
INCLUDING TRANSFERENCE OF ANGER
Now I’ll explain what the two specific difficulties are, that keep us from
getting on with this release. The first difficulty is with the anger and
avoidance that comes up.
As I acknowledged, it's originally a frustrating situation.
But the problem occurs when we keep the anger aimed at the
current situation and the people in it. And I keep mentioning
this because it isn't just a bad habit. It's an inherent part of the
pattern we want to get rid of. I’d like you to please remember this;
the holding on to anger and the avoidance to clearing out our “stuff” are
both parts of the embedded patterns. They are not simply our
behavior patterns.
One of the reasons
people who were repeatedly abused keep transferring their anger is that
the anger is one of the things that's part of the original episodes. So
are the commands, put into him or her by others, that he will be hurt
worse if he expresses his anger, at the victimizer. The anger gets
generated. But it could never come out at the person he’s really angry
at, the victimizer in the past. And it couldn’t get released to someone
else the abused person tried to get help from, because either there was no
one there, or because the other parent was also an abuser, or just was in
fear as well.
So it comes out at others in today’s circumstances.
It’ll even come out at the therapist and even as a rejection of the
techniques. And that’s what is called transference. It’s like having a
pressure cooker with the release valve being blocked. A lot of tightness
and hardness has to hold in all that stored anger that keeps being
generated. And it eventually starts seeping out through cracks in the
seal.
This behavior is what
the person believes he's had to do much of his life. These old
embedded controlling experiences were all battling episodes. So it's
programmed for the person to act this way.
The person is programmed to think that the only way he can be safe is to
battle, even to go covertly hostile. And if a person doesn't have another
way to relate that's more satisfying, he or she will keep battling.
It really goes bad when the person starts battling the idea of
doing the process itself. Now, even the super-limbic observer mind has
been lost. The programming in the limbic system and body energy packets
has totally taken over. The alien has won.
A second reason for the anger staying focused on only the current
life situation is physiological.
The anger can keep a person in a state where the blood is most active
in the outer musculature. (It's like what happens when a bodybuilder
pumps up in a show to look as big as he or she can.)
Energy and awareness tends to follow blood flow as well as
direct blood flow. So this emotional "pumping up" keeps the
consciousness in the large doing muscles. And they're the ones we use to
directly interface with the outside world. Naturally, then, this will
want to keep the attention on the current life problems. Unfortunately,
that keeps your attention on the transference and not on the cause
of your problem.
Focusing on the outer musculature was a good thing to do when we were
working with the material that was stored in the outer muscles. We could
relate with the way those outer muscles were used to strike out and also
to protect us when we were abused. But once those muscles have been
cleared of their material and hardness, the attention needs to be focused
deeper inside the body, into deeper and deeper sets of organs and
structures.
Otherwise, we spend a lot of time in the therapy first working to release
the "symptoms." Only after the symptoms have been released can we do the"
real" work, to eliminate additional original stuff that's still causing
these symptoms.
CHAPTER 6:
UNDERSTANDING DISSATISFACTION
With an analysis of the issue of battling
AND FURTHER EXPLANATION ABOUT
BEING STUCK TO OUR PROGRAMS.
The series of explanations in this long chapter will help you further
understand a person’s condition and issues, after being subjected to
abuse. It also indicates how we can fix it, and I recommend my other
books and articles that detail the methods.
THE EMBEDDED ENERGIES OF
BATTLE, CHAOS, AND INEFFICIENT “OPERATION,”
AND WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO CLEAR THE DEEP LAYERS IN THE BODY
If a person is aware
that the behaviors of creating battle and chaos are indeed something he or
she doesn’t want anymore, then behavior modification
training might help.
This is where the person’s nice-person, capable outside layers learn and
practice new, better ways of achieving his or her goals. Since the inner
soul path and primary personality are “on board” with this attempted
change, they can provide some amount of power of awareness
to keep the person going on the “right” track, even if there are some
distracting blockages that pop up.
Here we are trying to make the parts of life that are already
working “well,” (because of the first round of release) work even
better. And we
can use psychotherapy, career guidance, and even specialized kinesiology
treatments or neuro-linguistic programming. These methods empower the
person to take “better” action. In the last chapter I described some of
the kinds of blocks people run into on their way to taking that action.
The point here is that with the restrictive abuse cleared in the outer
muscles, a person can indeed make use of these ”doing” muscles and their
energies in more effective ways than he's been able to do before.
But there's still
something wrong in the body. The deeper parts of the actual structure and
energy field are still tight, just the way they have been,
and that tightness “flavors” the person's efforts to get what he
wants. These energies and tightness make the person act in subtle, yet
self-sabotaging ways, even if those efforts are somewhat
successful. They can me much more successful if we remove the “negative
side effects” of the loss and defeat that are in the past experiences when
he took the same action.
The action is training in how to succeed. But the training episodes were
unsuccessful because of some other things the person did
that were not in line with his soul path. The logic is,
that if we remove the unsuccessful parts and
the propensity to do the wrong things, then the training
for current, real life, will pay off.
The self-sabotaging
was created in the past experiences, by the abusers, or “trainers,” and we
find that the script of those episodes shows just how those other
people stopped, and then blocked our own creative expression that was
coming out of our core.
The battling and loss that’s
outlined in this script became the tightness
and negative programming inside the person’s layers that have been
blocking the core.
This “flavoring” in
the block are feelings like bitterness, anger, frustration and
confrontation, including “overpowering” and ignoring or invalidating. And
they are embedded in chaotic experiences.
While the outside layers are now free enough to do certain things to
satisfy the whole person, the tightened and malfunctioning inside layers
still cannot.
This observation tells us how to solve the problem. Whatever areas of the
body get their tightnesses and negative energies cleared can be used by
the nice person, capable outer personality to make it even more
capable, in part,
because there is now more of the person’s cleared energy system to use for
its own, positive actions. So the more layers of muscle and energy field
that get cleared, the more capable the person gets.
CHAPTER 7:
AN ENERGETIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE SAME
PATTERNS: A DESCRIPTION OF
GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY AND THE ISSUES OF ABUSE
By describing the chakra (sha-kra) energy system of the bodymind
THE CHAKRAS –IN GENERAL
WHAT THEY ARE, WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED
AND WHAT HAPPENS TO THEM WHEN PEOPLE ARE ABUSED
There are a series of rotating energy centers in a line along the front of
the spinal column. This line extends up through the crown of the head to a
place about one and a half feet above it, and down though the bottom of
the torso to about knee level.
While often thought to be in the realm of psychic phenomena and
clairvoyance, these energy centers are actually measurable with scientific
instruments and even with a simple hand held pendulum, like a small weight
hanging on a thread. If you hold your pendulum over a chakra, a few
inches above your skin, it should start to spin. A healthy spin on the
front of the body is large and clockwise. And an emotional or physical
dysfunction shows up as a smaller spin, sometimes going in the reverse
direction.
There are a number of centers in the physical body, from the base of the
torso to the top of the head, plus one above the head and one between the
knees. But for the purposes of this chapter, only the major seven need
to be looked at. Each of the seven centers in the physical body
corresponds to the physical and emotional components located in those same
areas, like organs, glands, nerves, blood flow, immunological function,
muscular activity and feelings.
We need these chakras to function in the world. More accurately, they
are parts of us
just the same as our organs, nerves and muscles are parts of us. And we
use them all, every day, to do everything from just getting out of bed to
creating or solving the most sophisticated of projects.
In fact, since each chakra embodies both physical and psychological
elements, understanding the workings of the chakras gives us a common
ground, a link, for understanding how our mental and physiological
functions interconnect.
The chakras work together. Each has a specific function. And when a
person is abused, these rotating energy systems in the part of the body
that were harmed, or that were tensed up, get filled with the negative
energies of that circumstance.
When it’s a very significant
episode, those energies get stuck right there in the energy field, both in
the collagen fibers of the fascia and in other tissues, and energy flows
as well.
INPUT
AND OUTPUT CHAKRA FUNCTIONS
Besides physical body functions and emotional energies, these chakras
correspond to a series of well known psychological development stages that
we go through as we're growing up, from birth to age seven. These stages
are delineated in Reichian and Bioenergetic therapy.
Difficulties in any of these stages of development create the actual
physical and energetic blockages and dysfunctions we accumulate.
So each chakra corresponds to a particular area of the body, with it
organs, emotions, muscles and bones. And we are built by nature in an
orderly arrangement that corresponds to a natural sequence of energies, as
common as the colors of the rainbow.
What we see in the chakras are particular frequencies of nature, and each
corresponds to certain kinds of physical functions and certain types of
emotional feelings, If we understand some details of this orderliness, it
allows us to understand the different parts of ourselves with greater
awareness than just a physical or psychological analysis would do.
The chakras also have an "input" or "output" function. The odd ones,
Chakras 1, 3, 5 and 7 are output chakras. The primary direction of their
activities is to "transmit," so our physical and psychological functions
in these areas activate outwardly, to express ourselves. The even ones,
Chakras 2, 4 and 6 are input chakras. The primary direction of their
activities is to "receive." So in these areas, we perceive, or bring in
information. They’re the places we feel and sense.
Very simply stated, in the abdomen (#2), we feel our own needs, in the
heart |
